Our research looks at how cities support and accelerate innovation. At the urban scale, we are developing the tools and methods to collect and analyze large amounts of data about the effects of design, planning and policy on innovation. At the smaller scale of the building and organization, we are investigating the mechanics of social interaction, collaboration and idea exchange; and developing architectural solutions and digital tools that support collective creativity.

Intangible Qualities of Social Dynamics
We spent some time discussing theScientific American article "Cities: Engines of Innovation" by Edward Glaeser (September 2011). We were left with a deeper interest in discovering the "intangible qualities of social dynamics".
How could we use new and current technology to study cities in a new way? What could we learn that has not been uncovered by planning studies already completed?
Our main questions about Kendall Square:
- Curious to understand Kendall in the context of history and policy
- Deeper awareness of available technology resources
- Discovering economic data sources
